Thesis:
Re-Imagining Gramercy Park
In progress

My thesis examines the exclusivity of Gramercy Park, focusing on the cast-iron
fence that separates the park from the public. Through personal experiences and
architectural references, I explore the tangible hierarchy created by the park’s
boundaries and ask the question: ‘Can exclusivity in communal spaces be a positive
thing?’ and ‘How can we make these exclusive spaces beneficial to the rest of the
community?’ I seek to investigate whether exclusive designs can benefit the wider
community, particularly by exploring how older residents of the park could engage
with its wildlife in a meaningful way, contributing to the ecosystem while preserving
the park’s unique character
