This project transforms a site in Boerum Hill into a café and bar inspired by the
charm of a 1950’s classic diner. The ground floor operates as the café. The façade
is designed to reflect traditional diner aesthetics,  incorporating metal piping and
glass blocks reminiscent of 1980’s architecture, and features a take-out window for
passerby service.

Working in collaboration with 15 7th grade students from Dock Street School for
STEAM Studies, our Co-Design Studio designed and prototyped “The Dock,” a
snack and beverage storefront and mobile store. This deployable structure will offer
middle school students the chance to purchase snacks from a transformable retail
space within their school.

I was specifically responsible for the modular wall system. In collaboration with
Alexandra Bernhard, we designed a wall composed of three panels featuring a grid
of slots and planking to emphasize the classic dock design. We worked closely with
our client, the 7th grade students, to create a shelving system that met their needs
and desires. Together, we developed a detailed construction package and addressed
numerous logistical challenges throughout the iterative design process.
